Introduction

This was a creative challenge to interpret the letter 'I' in a way which could be used as an illustration and a drop cap.

Description

In creating the final illustration, we considered the form of a classic serif capital 'I' which has a tall slender form reaching upwards. We then considered other forms which do this in nature and Ivy was the choice we decided upon.

The rough idea was sketched using pencil and paper, then scanned into our vector application. Photographs where sourced so that we could accurately reproduce the Ivy leaves and get a sense of how the plant grows.

In the final illustration, we decided to use the letter 'I' as a cut out on a panel and placed the Ivy behind and through this, which we felt best represents the characteristic way Ivy grows.
